Fine Gael T.D. In Wicklow Defends Government Plan


The United Left Alliance says the new Programme for Government is a recipe for more cuts and austerity – within the confines of the EU/IMF bailout deal.

The 5 TD group – which includes members of the Socialist Party and People Before Profit – says the Fine Gael/Labour coalition just offers more of the same policies of the outgoing Government.

Wicklow Woman Calls For Change To Legal Name For Those With Special Needs


A Wicklow mother is demanding a change to the archaic law that brands people with special needs as mentally unsound.

Philomena Pallas says she was angered after hearing her 28 year old son who has Down Syndrome referred to as such at a recent sitting of Bray Circuit Civil Court.

The case involved a payout to Walter Pallas, following a car crash in July 2009 when his mother’s car was damaged.

Wicklow TD Joins Criticism Of Mary Hanafin Following Her No Confidence Vote


Fine Gael’s calling on the Taoiseach to consider sacking his Tourism Minister after she revealed she voted against Brian Cowen last night.

Mary Hanafin’s insisting she had no issue with Brian Cowen being Taoiseach, but couldn’t vote confidence in him to continue as leader of Fianna Fáil.

But Fine Gael’s Alan Shatter says Mary Hanafin’s position in Cabinet is unconstitutional.

As Tuesday’s crucial confidence motion draws closer momentum is building against the Taoisech and one by one his party members are coming out to say they can no longer support his leadership.

The list of those who’ve sided against Brian Cowen now includes former Minister Willie O’Dea, and Junior Ministers Conor Lennihan and Billy Kelleher.

Claims that there is no salt available for local authorities in County Wicklow, have been dismissed as over exaggerated by the chairman of Wicklow county Council Tom Fortune.

Yesterday Wicklow Councillor Nicky Kelly said Wicklow and Arklow town councils along with Wicklow county council have admitted they now have no salt reserves
